Indexability

Indexability describes whether a URL meets conditions that allow a search engine to consider it for indexing. Technical accessibility and eligibility do not guarantee actual indexing.

Check the HTTP response, robots.txt access, noindex in robots meta tags or X-Robots-Tag, rendered content, and canonical and duplicate URL handling together. Blocking crawling in robots.txt can prevent a search engine from reading a page’s noindex directive.

Use Search Console’s URL Inspection tool and Page indexing report to examine the state Google has recorded. A live URL test helps check current accessibility but does not establish that the page is indexed.

Crawled - currently not indexed means Google crawled the page but has not indexed it. The status alone does not prove that content quality is the sole cause. Review usefulness, duplication, internal links, and technical conditions, then check subsequent processing.

Frequently asked questions

Does crawlability guarantee indexing?

No. Crawl access, permission to index, and Google’s actual indexing decision are separate. Distinguish these states in URL Inspection and the indexing report.
