GA4 Configuration Tag

GA4 Configuration tag is the name of a former GTM tag type. It was replaced by the Google tag in 2023, and existing configuration tags were upgraded automatically. Check current setups using the Google tag terminology.

The Google tag provides common configuration for destinations such as GA4, while GA4 Event tags send individual event names and parameters. Review the tag ID, destinations, firing conditions, and consent state together.

Enhanced-measurement collection options are managed in the GA4 web data stream’s enhanced-measurement settings. Do not instruct readers to manage every such toggle in the former GA4 Configuration tag.

After migrating or editing settings, verify actual requests and events with Tag Assistant and DebugView. Check for duplication between automatic collection and custom tags and for intended delivery to multiple destinations.
