Mobile Usability

Mobile usability describes how easily people can read, navigate, and complete tasks on a small screen. Search Console’s Mobile Usability report and the Mobile-Friendly Test were retired in December 2023.

Check small text, overlapping or difficult-to-tap controls, unintended horizontal scrolling, obstructive elements, and form problems on real devices. Screen size and input method can change the experience of the same page.

Do not present the retired report’s menus or validation workflow as current instructions. Use browser developer tools and tools such as Lighthouse as aids, and test reading, navigation, and form submission on actual devices.

Google uses the mobile version of content for indexing and ranking, so ensure important content and metadata remain available on mobile. Usability improvements alone do not guarantee a particular ranking or increase in conversions.
