Automatic does not mean every event is impossible to disable. The web tag’s default page_view can be controlled with send_page_view; history-change measurement also depends on enhanced-measurement settings.
For single-page apps, check both automatic history detection and manual sends for gaps and duplicates. A returning visit without first_visit does not alone indicate a broken tag.
